I have been asked many times about my stance on Stars and Thunder and I have provided my consistent response upon being asked. For anyone who is wondering but has yet to find out what my stance is, here it is:
In regards to Stars and Thunder, I had the opportunity of participating in Stars and Thunder as a volunteer but also as the MC for the Indigenous Drumming and Dancing (both years). The event attracted tourism and provided something fun for community members and tourists; which was great to see and be a part of. However, I don’t feel that this event is something that taxpayers (like myself) should have to pay a price for.
I believe that events can be run by not-for-profits or for-profit agencies. Many of the agencies have the contacts, the manpower, interest for a committee and skill set to accomplish big events that are successful. The non profit and for profit sector would have access to many grants that can successfully pay for an event such as stars and thunder. So to be frank, if I am a successful candidate I would not support another CITY RUN Stars and Thunder. In saying that, I must add that I would support/promote any other agency that felt they wanted to take on the event.
In a situation where the majority of the other councillors voted for another Stars and Thunder (which could happen), I would request that a proper business plan be prepared. I would want to know the specifics, such as - how involved the city will be? How involved will the Mayor and Senior staff be? With the figures for previous years, I'm left wondering if line items such as labour and equipment were factored into the final numbers.
Lastly, Tourism is a good thing for our city but the bottom line is that consideration for our community members is of the utmost importance.

Hi and Welcome to my campaign website. I am currently running for a seat on the City of Timmins Council, for Ward 5! I have been involved in the community for the past 17 years and feel that my energetic personality will be a breath of fresh air on city council. I am truly invested in the City of Timmins and want to ensure that there is equal representation throughout the city.
